Maya listened to her uncleâs instructions and reached out her small hand to catch the project proposal, feeling so oppressed that she found it hard to breathe.
She wanted to ask her uncle if they were just going to accept the trick Old Master Spencer played on them like this?
For the sake of this project, does she have to keep appeasing Liam?
Suddenly, Maya felt a sense of helplessness, as if she had returned to three years ago overnight, once again becoming unsupported.
She knew no one owed her anything, and no one was obligated to help her with anything.
But her uncle was not just anybody; she hoped he wouldnât push her away, wouldnât distance himself from her.
Over the years, he had been the one encouraging her, giving her courage; she hoped they could be well.
Inside the office, Aron Hanson looked at the pale little face of the girl before taking a deep breath, pursing his lips, and said, "Maya, I know what you want to do, but you must understand, only by becoming stronger than our opponents can we exact revenge, understood?"
"I understand!" Maya understood this principle well.
She thought perhaps she had been too well-protected these years, hence her fussiness! Therefore, she didnât like her uncleâs words earlier, but there is no denying he made sense.
So, she took the contract and left for Owen Clan Group.
On the way, Mayaâs brows never relaxed as she contemplated her thoughts.
She was not willing to be used by her grandfather again after three years, and she was not willing to be continually slept with by Liam.
Her uncle was worried about the Hanson Clan; how could she not be? Without the Hanson Clan Group, there would be no Maya of today.
She pondered over her uncleâs words, thinking if Liam had scandals, and a lot of them.
If he had scandals, she could seize the opportunity to break off the engagement, hit back at her grandfather, and elicit sympathy from everyone by showing her vulnerability.
In this way, Owen Clan Group would be pressured by public opinion and wouldnât dare to do anything to Hanson Clan easily.
Thinking of this, Maya sighed in relief, as if she had found the answer, finally able to relax for a moment.
Next, all she had to do was dig up his scandals.
She couldnât believe that after all these years, Liam could be faithful on his own, and that Hartley Shaw was very suspicious.
To avoid being reduced to a pawn again, Maya had to resort to sneaky tactics.
Half an hour later, Maya parked her car in the underground garage of Owen Clan Groupâs headquarters and headed towards Liamâs office with the proposal in hand.
When she knocked on the office door, the same lazy voice called her in, only the voice was somewhat hoarse.
Upon entering, she saw Hartley sitting on Liamâs desk, chatting and laughing with him.
Maya stood frozen at the scene, thinking, what a lucky find!
Seeing the intimate demeanor between the two, Maya took a deep breath, secretly turning on the recording function on her phone.
Thinking, well done Liam, you got caught!
Actually, Liam and Hartley werenât doing anything. Hartley was just sitting on the desk with her back facing the door, chatting with Liam.
Of course, the scene did appear somewhat ambiguous, and ordinary friends certainly wouldnât sit on Liamâs office desk like that.
When Mayaâs gaze landed on the desk, she saw a lunch box, all silver, clearly brought by Hartley.
Haha! Looks like Liamâs popularity is good! Even after the grandpa announced the engagement, thereâs a woman bringing him food.
Seems like she, the âfiancĂŠe,â is quite invisible!
But thatâs just as well, exactly what she wanted, as she feared Liam had no scandals!
Hence, she raised her lips, displaying an enigmatic cold smile, and walked step by step towards the two.
In the office, Liam and Hartley were quite surprised to see her arrival.
Obviously, Mayaâs sudden attack caught them off guard.
Hartley looked at the girl with a cold smile and took a deep breath, promptly getting up from the desk, smiling to greet her, "Maya, youâve come!"
Listening to Hartleyâs greeting, Maya turned the cold smile into a charming one.
She replied, "Since you could come, why couldnât I?"
Then, she glanced at the lunch box and Liam on the desk.
The lunch box had no signs of being opened, so she sarcastically remarked, "Third young master, Miss Shawâs kind gesture shouldnât be wasted."
Hartley felt uncomfortable hearing the girlâs sarcasm. To be honest, she didnât like Maya at all; she just acted better.
However, Maya couldnât even be bothered to act; she aimed to create this very atmosphere.
This way, her recording would be effective.
Then, Hartley took a deep breath, forcing a smile to explain, "Maya, I think you might be misunderstanding. I just heard that the third young master often skips lunch, so I came to check on him. After all, weâve known each other since we were kids, and our bond is quite strong."
Hartley seemed to be explaining, but in the dark, she was reminding Maya that her relationship with Liam was special, not something Maya could shake.
Inside the desk, Liam, watching the two women filled with gunpowder, had a headache.
In recent days, Hartley kept coming to his company for no particular reason, bringing him food and drinks. She claimed to be here to learn business skills, but Liam wasnât dumb; he knew what she was up to.
But out of courtesy, he didnât break it off as she didnât mention it.
Hartley had heard about Mayaâs temper, very extreme, either cold like an iceberg or exploding like dynamite.
At this moment, she wanted to ignite Maya.
She had known since childhood that Liam liked understanding girls!
Back then, she lost to Grace because she was more willful than Grace.
However, after so many years, she had grown. She naturally wouldnât repeat the same mistakes, just needed to provoke Mayaâs explosive temper to annoy Liam.
Hartley thought Mayaâs temper was about to burst, and the words she just said were quite provocative.
She couldnât believe Maya could swallow it all.
Maya hearing Hartleyâs insinuations, ironically wanted to laugh!
This further proved her previous suspicions were correct; the relationship between the two was indeed special.
Watching Hartleyâs arrogant demeanor, seeing her eyes filled with contempt and her eager anticipation for an outburst, Maya slightly raised her lips, revealing a smile that was hard to read.
Maya knew, perhaps even better than Hartley, that Liam liked gentle girls.
Whether it was three years ago or now, as long as she behaved, as long as she acted spoiled, Liam would almost always yield to her wishes.
Even though she really wanted to explode at this moment, wanted to do things that would annoy Liam.
She felt it was meaningless!
It was meaningless because she had always known Liam only had a casual interest in her and wouldnât fall for her.
Therefore, she wouldnât make a fuss over other women with him; she wouldnât make herself a joke.
Thus, she calmly and generously asked, "Miss Shaw, do you like the third young master?"
