As soon as Aron Hanson finished expressing his views, the conference room erupted."This is impossible, we canāt all go down with her. At this rate, the Hanson Clan Group will be gone before she even grows up."
"Aron, we are veteran employees who have walked alongside your father and watched Hanson become stronger step by step. If you want us to stand by and watch Hanson be destroyed by a woman, we wonāt allow it."
"Exactly, what ability does she have? She was just used by the second son of the Spencer Family and got nothing in the end. We donāt agree with her staying in the company."
"Indeed, she is too self-serving to be beneficial to Hanson. Thereās a saying, a married daughter is like spilled water, can she be trusted? If she truly has the companyās interests at heart, then cancel the marriage alliance with the Spencer Clan and reclaim whatās ours."
In the face of Aronās unyielding support, the words of the others grew increasingly harsh and unpleasant.
Maya Spencer watched these people indifferently and chuckled coldly, thinking to herself, well played Liam Spencer, waiting right here to catch her off guard.
Not only did he want her to bear the stigma of being an insider traitor for Hanson, but he also wanted her to clash with Kinsley Spencer.
However, sorry, that move of his was too wishful thinking. She wonāt fight Kinsley nor will she call off the marriage. Besides, the wedding was just a week away.
Didnāt he care about face? Didnāt want to see her marry Kinsley? Well, she would marry him just to make him uncomfortable.
Maya was so angry that she didnāt realize she had no means to retaliate against Liamās schemes.
Amidst the noisy chaos, Maya took a deep breath, pulled out her office keys and work badge from her pocket, and said, "Chairman, I wonāt write a resignation letter. My keys and work badge are here; let the HR department verify them. Iām leaving."
With that, she grabbed a pair of large sunglasses from her desk, put them on her nose bridge, and walked out grandly.
Despite holding back a belly full of anger and hating Liam so much it made her grit her teeth, this time, she felt truly helpless, and could only joke with her own marriage. She also worried Liam might sabotage it.
On the way back, unable to hold back any longer, she pulled out her phone and dialed Christopher Scott.
"Whatās up, sweetheart?" Christopher replied in a relaxed tone as if unaware of Liamās underhanded actions.
Listening to his voice, Maya asked furiously, "What exactly is Liam planning? Does stabbing others without benefiting himself make any sense?"
Christopher, hearing her anger, frowned and scratched his head, saying, "Honestly, I donāt know what the third brother is up to. Maybe heās jealous seeing you and Kinsley getting married!"
When "jealous" was mentioned, Maya was momentarily stunned but quickly snapped back, thinking he must have mistaken her for Grace. Coming from Christopher, this wasnāt very credible.
So she angrily said, "Jealous? Why doesnāt he just eat... shit."
"Pfft!" Christopher laughed at her words.
After laughing, he said, "Sweetheart, I think you should talk to your third brother face-to-face, see what he means. Heās more responsive to softness than hardness. A little cooing and everything will be okay. Youāve closed billion-dollar deals, what are you afraid of?"
Maya disliked this advice. Why should she give in just because Liam was powerful? Even though this was indeed a survival-of-the-fittest world, she would not bow to Liam.
Thus, she replied coolly, "I wonāt go to Liam. I did nothing wrong; why should I coo at him?"
"Men need to be coaxed," Christopher said.
"Iāve only ever heard women need coaxing," Maya countered.
"Fine, Iāll tell your third brother to coax you," Christopher seized the opportunity to play matchmaker. With Grace gone, no one fit Liam better than Maya.
Actually, Maya wasnāt suitable at all; it was just that Liam liked her.
"Donāt say nonsense. Iām hanging up," Maya interrupted Christopherās trap and ended the call.
Yet having talked to Christopher, Mayaās mood hadnāt improved. Thus, she drove to the department store to consume and relieve stress, not finding any other way.
At noon, Kinsley called, and Maya listlessly answered, "Second brother."
Then, the apologetic voice of Kinsley came through, "Maya, I heard you resigned. Sorry about that. As for our projectās collaboration, Iāve already called it off."
"Donāt! Please donāt do that. By doing so, youāre letting Liam win. He is deliberately sowing discord. Rest assured, I wonāt take this to heart; it was I who approached you first." Although Maya wanted to make a mark in Hanson, she couldnāt disregard Kinsley and Aron.
"What are you planning to do next?" Kinsley asked.
"Second brother, what if I insisted on getting married, how would you feel?" Maya was this rebellious; the more Liam obstructed, the more she wanted to defy.
"I have no objections. Iāve had the wedding dress and jewelry delivered to your villa." Kinsley knew this wedding couldnāt end smoothly; Liam wouldnāt allow his fiancĆ©e to marry him.
But to keep Maya satisfied and to uphold his integrity, he pushed forward regardless.
Besides, canceling the wedding now would greatly damage the Spencer Clanās reputation. If the company experienced turmoil, heād lose completely to Jane Spencer.
Seeing Kinsley not reneging, Maya felt somewhat relieved, but still, there was emptiness and much disappointment.
After hanging up, Maya looked up at a dessert shop in front of her, planning to go in for a rest.
While walking and putting her phone in her handbag, she suddenly bumped into someone.
Before she could even look up, she apologized, "Sorry."
The man, hearing her apology, didnāt respond, instead stood still, watching her intently.
At this point, Maya looked up at the person. Upon seeing the face she detested, she rolled her eyes disdainfully and took two steps to the left, brushing past him.
What annoyed her was that despite rarely visiting the department store, she happened to bump into Liam, whom she thought of as a curse. She didnāt realize it wasnāt a coincidence; someone had come intentionally to see her.
Just as Maya brushed past him, realizing he had a girl with him, an unfamiliar face.
Thinking of this, she abruptly turned, looking at Liam, and sure enough, there was a very demure girl hanging onto his arm, quietly following him.
