Maya Spencer listened to Liam Spencerâs comforting words, spread her arms, and hugged him tightly, seeking a sense of safety. The two embraced tightly. Maya stood on her tiptoes, resting her chin on Liamâs shoulder, and said sentimentally, "Brother Three, things have been very unsettled lately, always making me feel like something else will happen."
"Itâs all in the past, everything will be fine," Liam kissed her cheek, comforting her.
"Hmm hmm!" Maya nodded, hoping it would be so.
"The day after tomorrow, itâs the Shaw Clan Groupâs 20th anniversary. Cheer up, Aron Hanson wonât have any problems."
"Hmm!" Maya responded softly, though she didnât really want to go. With her uncle involved in such a big incident, she wasnât in the mood and didnât want to be looked at as some sort of freak. With Aronâs situation, naturally, people would gossip.
However, Lucas Shaw wasnât just anybody; even if she didnât want to go out, she still had to show Lucas some face.
These days have been especially eventful, whether for good or bad reasons, with all kinds of gatherings exhausting Maya. She just wanted a quiet life with Liam, but her identity didnât allow it, forcing her into countless social obligations.
Two days later, Maya donned a modest light blue cocktail dress with a white thin trench coat and headed to the banquet with Liam.
In the car, Maya was still feeling glum, but upon exiting, she immediately put on her signature smile to greet those who were saying hello to her and Liam.
After entering the banquet hall, Maya clearly felt the gazes more than usual. When she tried to catch those looks, people quickly averted their eyes. Maya knew that once again, people were gossiping behind her back.
Thankfully, her defensive abilities were strong enough that she wouldnât even bother with other peopleâs comments.
Still, she couldnât help but worry about Aron Hanson.
"Maya, thank you for coming," Lucas Shaw felt somewhat moved seeing Maya attend under these circumstances.
"No worries." Mayaâs lips curled into a knowing smile.
Todayâs atmosphere made it quite clear that everyone was somewhat suppressed, not saying much, especially Christopher Scott, who sat alone on an antique European-style sofa, crossing his legs, idly playing with his phone, glancing now and then toward the entrance of the banquet hall.
Maya didnât need to guess to know that this guy was waiting for Seven Murray.
Would Seven Murray come today? Maya asked herself.
Although she hoped Seven would come to keep her company, considering her company had just declared bankruptcy a few days ago, would she be in the mood to attend a banquet?
Moreover, for Seven, this kind of gathering had lost its meaning. She no longer needed to network, expand her social connections, and given the layer of relationship with Christopher, she probably wouldnât come!
Maya felt particularly melancholy today, seeing everything in a pessimistic light, her spirits unusually low, questioning what it meant to be alive.
She scanned the people around, observing everyone wearing a facade, watching people smile without sincerity as they flattered each other, seeing how behind every interaction was the supremacy of interests, she felt so hollow.
The lively crowd instead made Maya feel even lonelier, much preferring to chat with Aunt Smith and others at home, at least there was genuine emotion.
Maya didnât realize her emotions were getting increasingly off, showing signs of having an episode.
"Maya, Seven is here." While Maya was feeling melancholic, Liam leaned in gently and whispered to her.
It wasnât until she heard Seven Murray had arrived that Maya snapped back to reality, her lips once again forming a smile.
As she was about to rise from the sofa, Seven came bursting towards her, a particularly radiant smile on her face, which surprisingly reassured Maya greatly.
The two girls met, holding each otherâs hands as they sat back down.
On the adjacent sofa, Christopherâs eyes suddenly came to life, quickly shifting towards Seven, with a hint of awkwardness.
He might have been regretting making things difficult for Seven, realizing she couldnât endure it anymore, which was indeed the case.
Maya held Sevenâs hand and deliberately avoided sensitive topics, giving her a once-over, and cheerfully said, "Seven, your clothes look great."
Sevenâs clothing indeed looked great, uniquely one-of-a-kind.
Seven beamed, even more radiantly at Mayaâs compliment.
Then, she proudly boasted, "Maya, you have a good eye. This is something I designed and sewed myself, so how could it not be beautiful?"
"Seven, youâre so talented. I want to be your student."
"Sure! But Iâm afraid Brother Three wonât agree, wonât let you do this kind of labor."
Seeing Seven in a good mood, Maya cautiously probed, "Seven, what have you been busy with these past days?"
"Busy! Iâve been swamped, busy opening stores, busy being a model, busy with photoshoots, in short, Iâm on the verge of going crazy from busyness."
After saying that, Seven immediately took out her phone from her bag, opened a few apps, and explained to Maya, "Iâve decided to start with an online flagship store, look, this is our newly renovated store, these clothes are all designed by our studio designers, how is it?"
"Seven, youâre amazing, this idea is really nice, and your clothes are beautiful."
"Of course, Maya, hurry and bookmark my store with your phone, youâre my first customer, remember to support it a lot."
Maya didnât expect to find Seven still as energetic as ever, which inadvertently lifted Mayaâs spirits as well.
So, she hurriedly took out her phone, bookmarked the store, and nodded, saying, "Yes, yes, Iâll buy all my clothes from your store from now on."
"Weâve got bags, shoes, everything! Maya, Iâm planning to develop my brandâs app and open physical stores later, itâs driving me crazy with how busy I am," as Seven talked about her work, with both exasperation and happiness, it made Maya feel envious, thinking about how she once bit off more than she could chew by choosing life science research, now unable to do anything else.
Nearby, Christopher eavesdropped on the exchange between Seven and Maya. When he heard about Sevenâs entrepreneurial plans, a wry smile appeared on his lips, thinking that now he wanted to help Seven, but she didnât need it.
Unexpectedly, he realized he had misunderstood Seven all along. This person, who lived so earnestly and wasnât a bit worldly, was more lovable and likable than before.
However, he no longer had any reason to get closer to her.
After a round of conversation, Lucas Shaw took the stage to give a speech, causing Maya and Seven to quiet down, no longer chatting, focusing on Lucasâs speech.
Behind Maya, Liam gently hugged her, kissing her cheek and leaning in to whisper secretly, "Maya, would you like to join Seven in her activities?"
He was referring to Sevenâs store-opening activities.
