Sitting at the desk, Maya picked up the brush again, writing and contemplating about James Bennett.
Her contemplation lasted until four-thirty in the afternoon, when Liam Spencer came home and interrupted it.
In the bedroom, Liam picked out a light blue down jacket from the wardrobe and placed it on Maya, pinching her small face, asking, "Whatâs wrong? Still upset over Christopher Scott?"
"No, Iâm not thinking about Christopher Scott, just pondering my own issues." Maya gently grasped Liamâs coat with her small hands, looking up and replying sweetly.
Her intuition told her that Third Brother had been acting strange lately, especially when it came to James Bennett, treating him differently than others.
She thought about it today; maybe itâs because he admires James Bennett, so he treats him with extra respect.
However, despite this, in the matter of James Bennettâs friendliness towards her, Liam seemed overly generous, more so than with Christopher Scott.
At that moment, a small flame ignited in Mayaâs heart, making her feel that something important was about to happen.
Liamâs mind was quick, and seeing the heaviness in Mayaâs expression, he could guess what she was thinking.
He knew she was suspecting James Bennett, suspecting that there might be deeper intentions in his attitude towards her.
Liam lowered his head, looking into Mayaâs eyes, nonchalantly pinching her small face and asking, "What are you thinking about? Can you talk to Third Brother?"
"Itâs nothing much, just some wild thoughts. Iâll tell you when I have a bit more certainty." Maya said this while her eyes steadfastly stared at Liam, as if trying to glean some useful information from his gaze.
But Liamâs nonchalant demeanor revealed nothing to her.
"Letâs go then! Letâs not keep Chairman Bennett waiting." Liam rubbed the girlâs head gently and said.
He thought, once Maya and James Bennettâs relationship improves, heâd have James find some time to confess and reveal the whole truth to Maya. After all, at the current rate, Maya would have started forming some suspicions and be somewhat prepared.
Once sheâs calm and able to accept James Bennett, then telling her about it shouldnât be an issue.
As he thought about this, he took Mayaâs hand and led her into the car, heading towards James Bennettâs villa.
An hour later, Liam arrived with Maya at James Bennettâs villa.
This time, upon entering the house, Maya directly asked the maid, "Whereâs Sophia Bennett?"
"Miss was at home at noon and went out again in the afternoon."
"Sheâs definitely gone to pester Christopher Scott." Maya commented indifferently.
Liam could only shake his head helplessly, thinking how bizarre Sophia Bennett was, scaring Christopher Scott to the point he didnât dare return to his company.
After the meeting earlier, Christopher Scott didnât even return to Scott Clan Group but stayed at Owen Clan Group instead.
"Maya, Liam, youâre here!" James Bennett came out from the kitchen full of smiles, a pair of glasses perched on his nose, making him look gentle, like a professor, yet still very much fitting the category of a male idol.
Maya turned quickly at the sound of James Bennettâs voice, staring intently at him.
She thought, that man was cooking for her again. Even if a man was courting a woman, he wouldnât usually have such patience, right? Not to mention he was also kind to her boyfriend.
The more Maya thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed. She was curious about James Bennett, even more curious about why he was still single and not married.
So, she casually asked, "Chairman Bennett, youâre cooking again?"
"Yes! Whatever you like, Uncle can make it for you."
"Uncle Bennett, can I learn to cook from you? My cooking skills are really poor, Iâm afraid Third Brother might complain in the future." Maya moved closer to James Bennett, not really intending to learn cooking but to know more about him and draw him into a conversation.
James Bennett, thrilled that Maya wanted to learn culinary skills from him, immediately said, "Sure! Then Uncle will teach you starting with the basics."
"Okay!" Maya said as she quickly headed towards James Bennett, following him into the kitchen.
In the living room, Liam watched Mayaâs retreating figure, smiling helplessly. He thought, he hoped once the truth was revealed, Maya would still accept James Bennett as she did now, without any fuss.
After Maya went into the kitchen, Liam stayed in the living room watching TV, not feeling out of place at all.
Initially, he considered joining Maya in the kitchen, but then thought itâd be better for the two of them to be alone achieving emotional closeness.
So, he stayed in the living room.
In the kitchen, James Bennett said, "Maya, Uncle will first teach you to make ribs, isnât that your favorite?"
"Sure! Is there anything you need help with?" Maya looked at the gentle man in front of her, constantly smiling and no longer opposed him.
Seeing Mayaâs smile, James Bennett looked overjoyed and felt a burst of happiness, enjoying this sensation.
To keep Maya from getting bored, James hastily picked up a garlic bulb and handed it to her, saying, "Help me peel this garlic."
"Okay!" Maya took the garlic, staring straight at James Bennett.
She noticed how delighted James was having her help. But why was he so happy? She was just peeling garlic, nothing particularly joyous about that.
Even though Maya was filled with questions, she didnât directly ask James, fearing that such bluntness might alert him and make him wary.
So, she didnât confront him sharply but said with a smile, "Uncle Bennett, calling you uncle makes you sound old. How about I call you Brother Bennett instead? It seems more fitting for our relationship."
"Sure! As long as youâre happy, itâs all good." James Bennett clearly pleased with the idea of Maya calling him Brother Bennett.
Maya took a deep breath, seeing the manâs happy face, gently biting her lower lip, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, and casually asking, "Brother Bennett, youâre so capable and distinguished, why havenât you married? It seems a pity. If you were married, your kids might already be as grown as Sophia and I are."
Hearing Mayaâs question, James Bennett flinched slightly, instantly understanding why Maya wanted to learn cooking from him.
Liam wasnât wrong at all. Sheâs smart and quickly deduced the reason behind things.
James took a deep breath, stirring the ribs in the pot, saying helplessly, "These things are about fate. When fate comes, you canât stop it. If it doesnât come, I might live alone for the rest of my life."
Jamesâs response was very diplomatic, evidently brushing off Maya.
Maya continued asking, "Havenât you ever liked anyone? Never been in a relationship?"
