However, when she received the call once more, she agreed to go over right away and requested that Maya accompany her.In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Maya looked at Ella Turnerās expectant eyes, biting her lower lip tightly, conflicted.
She thought for a moment, took a deep breath, and said, "Alright, Iāll let Liam know."
"Okay!" Ella nodded, her face full of guilt, as though blaming herself for troubling Maya.
In the bedroom, when Maya opened the sliding door, she saw Liam holding a book in his left hand, his eyelids drooping from sleepiness.
She quietly approached the large bed, bent down and leaned in front of Liam, lifted her right hand, and took the book from his hand, saying, "Liam, if youāre tired, just sleep!"
Listening to the girlās gentle voice, Liam took a deep breath, held her small hand, and asked, "Has Ella left yet?"
"No, Ella wants me to accompany her to Ethan Turnerās company to fill out some forms and bring Ethanās stuff back."
"Go on then! Call me when youāre done; Iāll come pick you up."
"Sure!" Maya nodded in agreement and then added, "Liam, behave at home, and Iāll be back when you wake up."
"You little thing, hurry back," Liam said, pulling her into an embrace and planting a kiss on her soft cheek.
When Liam is at home, and Maya isnāt, he feels particularly uneasy, like something is missing. Even if they just nest in bed watching TV, doing and saying nothing, it still makes him feel fulfilled and happy.
Thatās why he urges Maya to hurry back to be with him.
Seeing the manās reluctance to part, Maya cradled his face in her small hands and kissed his lips without reservation.
Liam, seeing her playful actions, immediately pushed her away, raised his right hand, flicked her forehead with his finger, and scolded, "You little thing, fooling around even when youāre sick."
"I donāt mind," Maya said, her face full of a happy smile, making Liam laugh heartily.
He realized he liked Maya more and more; he could never love her enough.
After a moment of intimacy, Maya finally left the bedroom again and left with Ella.
In the car, Ella drove, and Maya sat in the passenger seat. Looking at Ellaās reddened eyes, she couldnāt help but feel a pang of heartache.
She knew that call had reminded her of Ethan again.
Taking a deep breath, Maya turned to look at Ella and consoled, "Ella, you need to be a little happier, or Ethan will worry about you. Life is about looking forward."
Listening to Mayaās comfort, Ella turned her head and smiled at her but didnāt respond.
She thought for a moment and casually asked, "Maya, has President Morris contacted you recently? I wonder how heās doing."
Ella intentionally brought up Lillian Morris because she wanted to hear from Maya that her relationship with Liam was merely an act, that she hadnāt truly fallen for him.
Although she could see Maya was genuinely happy with Liam, she still hoped Maya wasnāt invested in him.
Maya felt awkward upon hearing Ellaās question, not expecting her to bring up Lillian at this moment.
She stared at Ella for a while, then smiled and explained, "Ella, I havenāt been in touch with Brother Morris, but you can rest assured, Old Master Morris wonāt trouble him, and Brother Morris will be fine."
"Do you still like President Morris? Do you still think of him?"
Ellaās pressing questions put Maya in a difficult spot, making her wonder why this girl was bringing up Brother Morris today.
After thinking for a while, Maya looked at Ella earnestly and replied, "Ella, I had a crush on Brother Morris, but I never thought of being together. Now, I donāt think of him because I know heāll have a better life without me, and Iāll have my own life."
Even three years ago when leaving, Ella didnāt often think of Lillian Morris; she thought more about Liam, though her thoughts were filled with hate.
She was grateful for Lillianās help when she needed it and for saving her, but she knew they were impossible.
Ella listened to Mayaās explanation without much emotional change, just coldly continuing to ask, "So, do you like Liam then?"
"Iām used to being with him. Heās really good to me now, really good," Maya answered with certainty as she looked at Ella.
These days, sheād seen Liamās changes, and she could intensely feel his affection for her.
"Ella, you donāt still doubt Liam, do you?" Maya suddenly realized when the topic turned to Liam that Ella still didnāt trust him.
Sitting in the driverās seat, Ellaās grip on the steering wheel slipped slightly at Mayaās question, feeling a bit flustered.
But she quickly regained composure, pretending nothing was wrong, smiled, and said, "Of course not! If that were the case, I wouldnāt have gone to see the director today. Iām just curious because youāre so good to the director."
"Iām good to him because heās good to me. Liamās a good person, just a bit bad-tempered, but heās changed now too."
"Thatās good! Thatās good!" Ella replied perfunctorily, not continuing the previous topic because she feared Maya might see through her.
By the time they reached the Morris Clan Group, it was 5 oāclock sharp, and the HR staff was already waiting for Ella in the meeting room.
After helping Ella sort out Ethanās belongings, the staff handed her some documents to fill out, as Ethan had already passed away and some financial transfers required her bank card details, necessitating quite a bit of paperwork.
Maya sat nearby, looking at the items in the box, her eyes reddening uncontrollably.
Then, she took two framed photos Ethan had placed on his desk: a family portrait of the four in the Turner Family and a group photo of Ethan, Ella, and her.
The group photo was taken when they were at school. Although Maya was in a lousy situation then, everyone had big smiles.
Her fingers gently touched the photo, and she couldnāt help reminiscing about the time when the three of them rode on a bicycle for a joyride, longing for those days that seemed forever lost.
By six-thirty, Ella finally finished filling out the documents.
When they left the Morris Clan Group, most employees had already clocked out, with only a few still working overtime.
Ella looked at the place where her brother used to work, silent and solemn, as she walked to the waiting area for the elevator, taking it down to the underground parking lot.
Maya knew her mood was low, so she held her hand tightly throughout the way, staying quietly by her side, saying nothing.
But as Ella opened the car door and got inside, she suddenly broke down.
