Chapter 657 - No Reason
Chapter 657 of "No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother" starts unfolding: He took a deep breath, turned around, glanced at Madam Scott, and said calmly, "Mom,... Discover more!
He took a deep breath, turned around, glanced at Madam Scott, and said calmly, "Mom, donāt mention Sophia Bennett anymore. Iāve cleared things up with her, and she wonāt bother me in the future."A few days ago, when Sophia hadnāt texted Christopher Scott, he was quite pleased, feeling a sense of relief.
This morning, when Sophia sent him that farewell text, he was still a bit happy.
However, the more he read the text, the more uncomfortable he felt, and the sense of happiness was replaced by an increasing sense of loss and loneliness.
This feeling invaded his life, invaded his thoughts, making the apartment he lived in for seven or eight years seem lifeless, empty.
This feeling was terrifying, so he fled, but when his mother brought up Sophia again, the feeling inexplicably worsened.
Madam Scott sat beside him, and upon hearing Christopher say Sophia wouldnāt bother him anymore, her face darkened suddenly. She raised her right hand and slapped Christopherās arm, saying angrily, "Christopher, youāre being ungrateful. Such a good girl pursued you for so long. What are you not satisfied with? Are you still thinking about Seven Murray? Sheās pregnant and about to be a mother now. Do you want to be a bachelor forever and let our Scott Family have no descendants?"
"Christopher, Iām telling you, I wonāt accept it. I donāt care if you agree or not. Iāve already recognized Sophia as my daughter-in-law. Iāll propose to her family tomorrow. If you donāt listen to me and donāt marry Sophia, Iāll die right in front of you."
Madam Scott was so infuriated by Christopher that she threatened him with her life, demanding he quickly get married and have a child to fulfill her wish.
Listening to Madam Scottās unreasonable fuss, Christopher felt a headache coming on. He sighed deeply and said helplessly, "Mom, if you keep this up, Iāll leave right now."
Although Madam Scott was making threats, whether Christopher would listen was another matter. Moreover, asking him to marry Sophia after rejecting her was ridiculous. Heād rather the Scott Family have no descendants than lose face in such a way.
"Christopher, you bastard, I raised you for nothing. Tell me then, whatās wrong with Sophia? Why donāt you like her?"
Christopher was taken aback by Madam Scottās words. He bit his lower lip, pondering the question internally, asking himself: Whatās wrong with Sophia? Why doesnāt he like her? Why does he dislike her?
Christopher thought for a long time but couldnāt come up with an answer.
At this moment, he couldnāt recall what was wrong with Sophia; he only knew she looked at him very earnestly; she had a pretty smile when she smiled at him; when she was timid and aggrieved, she was endearing. But he never noticed until Madam Scott asked him this question, forcing him to think seriously.
Nowadays, those labels of arrogance and stubbornness were nowhere to be found on Sophia, not even the clinginess. Yet, Christopher realized today that he couldnāt explain why, but although thereās nothing wrong with Sophia, he just disliked her every time he saw her.
So, he took a deep breath and said indifferently, "Not liking is just not liking, thereās no need for so many reasons."
"Nonsense, liking someone needs no reason, but disliking someone always has a reason. You canāt dislike someone for no reason; there must be something about her that you find unpleasant."
Then Madam Scott added, "I actually donāt see anything annoying about that girl; Iād love to hear your reasons."
"No reason, I just dislike her!" Christopher rolled his eyes at Madam Scott and said resolutely.
"You little brat, I donāt care who you like or dislike. This coming New Year, you must bring a girlfriend home, or Iāll die right in front of you." Madam Scott threatened with her life again.
"What on earth are you two talking about in the middle of the night, saying youāre going to die with every sentence? Are you living life too leisurely?" Old Master Scott came down from upstairs.
"Dad!" Christopher called out to his father.
"Landon, look at this son of ours. Heāll be 30 next year and isnāt anxious to find me a daughter-in-law. Can I not be worried?" Madam Scott immediately complained.
"Stop making a fuss here; he knows what heās doing." Old Master Scott, seeing Christopherās upset expression, didnāt side with Madam Scott, having overheard the conversation from upstairs.
Old Master Scott was someone whoād been through it all, and his mind worked quickly. From just a few words from Christopher, he deduced that his son was feeling down because the girl suddenly stopped chasing him; since he was feeling down, he wouldnāt keep making himself miserable. He believed his son wouldnāt make the same mistake twice, so he didnāt criticize further.
"Master, Madam, Young Master, the supper is ready," the housemaid reported.
Hearing the housemaid say supper was ready, Christopher immediately got up and went to the dining room, avoiding his motherās marriage urgings.
At this moment, his mind was a mess; he couldnāt focus on marriage, and there wasnāt even a suitable choice. Who was he supposed to marry?
At the dining table, Christopher ate supper while lamenting over his life.
He had already completely let go of Seven Murray, but there was someone else inexplicably tugging at his heart, someone he disliked.
When Christopher finished his supper and returned to his bedroom, his mood was somewhat better than it had been at the apartment, but there was still no sign of sleepiness, and his heart felt empty. For a moment, it seemed he couldnāt find the meaning of life.
This desireless, expectationless, go-with-the-flow existence made him feel like a puppet, a soulless puppet.
He took a deep breath, turned on his side, and grabbed his phone from beside the pillow. It was already 2 AM, and he was wide awake, with no activity on his phone.
Christopher casually scrolled through the texts Sophia used to send him, but soon he became restless, impatiently tossing the phone aside.
This restlessness puzzled him; he couldnāt figure it out, whether he was annoyed with Sophia or annoyed with himself.
This tossing and turning continued until after five in the morning when Christopher barely drifted into sleep. Unfortunately, he dreamed about someone he shouldnāt have; he dreamt he married Sophia under his motherās pressure.
However, despite feeling uneasy and reluctant outwardly, he felt entirely at ease.
Eventually, Christopher woke up from this dream, suddenly sitting up in bed, frowning and scratching his head, incredulously reprimanding himself, "Christopher, you must be crazy, absolutely crazy."
Sophiaās departure had somewhat impacted Christopher, yet Sophia seemed to have truly figured it out for herself. In these past few days, she did nothing but shop, eat, and sleep, not experiencing any insomnia, as if sheād never known a person named Christopher Scott.
Yet, her character didnāt revert to its former self; she still spoke little, shopped alone, ate alone, and didnāt pull Maya Spencer to accompany her.
