Maya Spencer looked at the two words âthird brotherâ on the screen, and her heartbeat rapidly increased, fluttering like a deer caught in headlights, as if she was about to be caught in an affair.Maya stared at the screen for a moment, but still answered Liam Spencerâs call, pretending to be calm, she called out: "Third brother!"
"Maya, are you home? Can I pick you up for dinner?" Liam seemed in a very good mood today, with a hint of laughter in his voice.
"Iâm not at home, Iâm about to eat out." Maya explained in a flustered manner.
As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted speaking too quickly, speaking too nervously, as her words clearly carried an undertone of guilt.
On the other end, listening to Mayaâs panicked voice, Liam frowned slightly, and for a moment, it seemed he had guessed something.
However, he didnât expose Mayaâs secret, he simply and calmly asked, "Where are you? Iâll come get you."
Maya listened to Liamâs questioning, thinking that she shouldnât do anything shameful. She had been staying at home for a few days without going out, and Liam had been busy and hadnât come home to have lunch with her. Today Lillian had just arranged to meet her, and was caught by Liam, it was just bad luck.
Maya took a deep breath and said with a smile: "Third brother, Iâm having a meal with a friend, Iâll come to the company to see you later."
To ensure Liam did not become suspicious, she intentionally said she would find him at the company later, and in her heart, she made another plan. If Liam questioned her about which friend she was dining with, she would honestly tell him she was meeting Lillian.
However, Liam did not ask who she was eating with, he simply paused for a moment and said calmly: "Okay! Then you meet your friend first."
Then, he hung up the phone.
In the car, Maya exhaled deeply, lazily leaning against the back of the seat, feeling as if her legs had turned to jelly. She weakly clutched her phone, helplessly muttering to herself: "Third brother, why didnât you ask which friend Iâm seeing?"
Maya didnât want to lie, but she didnât have the courage to mention Lillian first, so she waited for Liam to ask her, but he asked nothing.
In the driverâs seat, she rested for a moment, picked up the phone, shook her head, and thought, she might as well go see Brother Morris! If he has any suspicions, she would explain everything to him clearly, and then go to the company to find Liam.
With this thought, Maya grabbed her purse, pushed open the car door, and got out.
Meanwhile, in Liamâs office, he threw the phone on the table with a loud "bang", his frown not yet relaxed, and his expression remained serious after finishing the call with Maya.
Clearly, he was not happy.
Maya had just told him she was going to have a meal with a friend, but there were only a few friends around Maya, easy to count and Liam knew all of them; however, she did not tell him which friend she was meeting.
So, Liam quickly guessed that the so-called friend Maya mentioned was Lillian, who had not been back for long.
Thinking of Maya meeting with Lillian, his mind became unsettled.
Lillian had intercepted his projects several times, and he knew what Lillian was up to; he also understood that Lillianâs focus wasnât on the project, but simply to provoke him, so when Lillian couldnât hold back anymore, he had asked to meet Maya.
At this moment, thoughts of Mayaâs diary flashed through Liamâs mind, recalling Mayaâs unrequited love for Lillian, which depressed him even more.
He felt an inexplicable sense of crisis, a fear of losing Maya.
Without thinking twice, he grabbed his phone and left the office.
In the restaurant, as soon as Maya walked through the door, she saw Lillian sitting in a private booth from afar.
Maya took a deep breath, trying to relax as she took step by step towards Lillian.
Not much had changed in the two years since she last saw Lillian; he was still warm, always giving off a comfortable presence.
At the dining table, when Lillian saw Maya approaching, he immediately broke into a smile, stood up from his chair, and pulled out the seat opposite for Maya, greeting her with a smile: "Maya, long time no see!"
"Brother Morris, have you been waiting long?" Maya asked with a smile.
"No, I just got here too."
After two years, meeting again brought a formality between the two, along with some awkwardness.
After Maya sat down, Lillian beckoned the waiter to order her favorite mango juice and a few dishes she liked.
Seeing that Lillian still remembered what she liked, Mayaâs smile became a bit stiff.
If her secret crush on Lillian had not been discovered; if there hadnât been an elopement; if Lillian hadnât confessed his feelings to her; Maya wouldnât have felt awkward, but with everything exposed and that had happened, she couldnât pretend nothing had happened or face Lillian like she used to.
After all, the Morris Clan Group had suffered greatly because of her.
The atmosphere became awkward for a moment.
Therefore, Maya forced a smile and said, "Brother Morris, you havenât changed at all in two years."
"Well! Maya, you are getting more and more beautiful," Lillian smiled warmly, but his warmth made Maya nervous.
Maya had a lot she wanted to explain to Lillian, but she didnât know where to start, so she picked up the mango juice and took a large sip to suppress her nervousness.
Seeing this, Lillian frowned, stared directly at Maya, and asked, "Maya, are you nervous? Are you afraid to see me?"
"Why would I be? No, Iâm not." Maya denied, although she was smiling, Lillian could tell that her smile was strained and unnatural.
"I heard youâre getting married to Liam."
"Mhm! October 8th." Maya didnât hide anything.
"Are you afraid Liam will find out about our meeting, afraid heâll get angry with you?" Lillianâs guess wasnât wrong; Maya did fear Liam getting angry because privately meeting Lillian wasnât a good thing.
However, Maya did not confirm this, she simply smiled and said, "Brother Morris, you misunderstood, Liam is very good to me, he wonât get angry."
"Maya, do you really want to marry Liam?"
"Yes! We have a great relationship, I truly want to marry him."
However, the more certain Mayaâs answer, the more Lillian felt something was off; in his memory, Liam and Maya were not very close, Maya was quite fearful of Liam; therefore, he couldnât believe Maya was willingly marrying Liam.
"Maya, is it because I returned, and you feel pressured, which is why youâre marrying Liam?" Lillian suspected that his return was the reason Maya suddenly decided to marry Liam, as she didnât want to see the events from two years ago repeat and didnât want the Morris Clan Group to be threatened again.
As it happened, the night Maya agreed to Liamâs proposal was just when Lillian returned.
Therefore, not long after Lillianâs return, the news of their upcoming marriage spread.
