Then, Madam Scott asked, "Sophia, this young man is...""Theo, my boyfriend," Sophia Bennett quickly replied.
After her words fell, her gaze involuntarily flickered towards Christopher Scott, awkwardly saying, "I didnât know Iâd run into you all here, or else..."
Sophia stopped halfway through her sentence and didnât continue.
Christopher could tell what she was trying to say; she was explaining to him that she hadnât intentionally appeared before him to make him hate her.
As Christopher listened to Sophiaâs explanation, he became somewhat irritated, thinking, does she intend to avoid me for the rest of her life? Is she not planning to invite me to her wedding?
If sheâs so scared of him, then why did she pursue him in the first place? Why did she provoke him?
Christopher became unhappy and bottled up his anger. He was so upset because of the way Sophia introduced the boy,
Even before they approached, Christopher had guessed their relationship, but seeing them stand before him and hearing Sophia introduce the man, a strange sense of loss in Christopherâs heart was replaced by sudden fury.
To be precise, he was jealous, but what right did he have to be jealous? Wasnât it he who rejected Sophia personally? Didnât he pull Sarah River into a performance to make her completely despair?
Christopher realized all of this, so he had to suppress his anger and pretend he didnât care if she had a boyfriend.
Hearing Sophiaâs explanation, Madam Scott immediately said, "Oh dear! Since weâve bumped into each other, letâs have lunch together; Iâll treat you both as a way of congratulating your lovely couple."
Christopher couldnât accept having to eat with Sophia and another man in love; he feared he would flip the table in anger.
So he quickly said, "Mom, I really have work at the company, Iâll invite them for a meal next time."
When Christopher mentioned inviting the couple, his heart suddenly twisted with a sour, painful feeling.
Sophia noticed this and immediately explained with gestures, "Madam, thereâs no need, Iâm not hungry yet, my mouth hasnât stopped talking, you see, all the snacks Theo is holding are mine."
Christopher saying heâd invite them next time naturally implied that he didnât want to see her, much less have a meal with her, so he used a stalling tactic.
With that being the case, Sophia wouldnât shamelessly force herself upon them for this meal. She had said she wouldnât pursue Christopher or disgust him anymore; she intended to fulfill that promise, even if it hurt inside.
Sophia didnât know that in recent days, Christopher missed her greatly, missed seeing her, felt deeply attached to her; refusing to have a meal with her was because he couldnât accept that she was someone elseâs girlfriend, so he resorted to avoidance.
Beside them, Theo noticed Sophiaâs embarrassed expression, and immediately took her hand, smiling, "Thank you for your kindness, Madam, but Sophia and I arenât hungry yet; weâll visit you next time."
"If thatâs the case, then I wonât force you. Have fun, I still need to accompany Christopher to meet a girl!" Then Madam Scott added, "Oh, youâre all settled, but this rascal..."
"Mom! Stop fooling around, I really have work." Christopher interrupted her, not letting her continue, especially in front of Sophia.
Because he wanted Sophia to know that he was still single, and not busy with dating; although he had brought Sarah River to a gathering once, he believed Sophia should have learned from Maya Spencer that he and Sarah River had parted ways, and he was still single.
However, regarding the matter between Christopher and Sarah River, Sophia did know, but when she learned the truth, she didnât celebrate, just smiled bitterly.
She hadnât expected Christopher to use Sarah River to drive her away, which deepened Sophiaâs inferiority, reinforcing her decision to give up on Christopher and not bother him anymore.
As Christopher interrupted Madam Scott, Sophiaâs smile became more awkward, thinking Christopher was annoyed with her, annoyed at her for saying so much.
So she quickly smiled and said, "Madam, Christopher, you go ahead, Theo and I will continue shopping, goodbye."
With that, Sophia pulled Theo around Christopher and Madam Scott and quickened her pace.
If Christopher disliked her so much, naturally she didnât want to make him continue to dislike her, as it would only make her cheaper.
She hadnât walked far with Theo when suddenly a boy appeared holding a bouquet of champagne roses, blocking Sophiaâs path.
Sophia looked at the man before her, startled, and retreated several steps, accidentally bumping into Christopher standing behind her.
"Sorry! Sorry! It wasnât intentional." Sophia turned to apologize, only then realizing she had bumped into Christopher.
In that instant, she wished she could find a hole to escape into; moving backward was no good, and going forward was not an option.
She frowningly stared at the boy blocking her path for a moment; he looked somewhat familiar but could not remember where sheâd seen him before.
Then she heard the boy say, "Sophia, when we met on the blind date last time, I really liked you. Please donât hate me, donât block me; Iâve been looking for you for days and heard you were at the mall today. Would you date me?"
Sophia listening to the boyâs confession, her face turned white in fear, heart racing, as if she had done something wrong.
Christopher, hearing someone confess to Sophia, immediately turned to scrutinize the boy, who appeared to be in his twenties, fairly handsome, holding a large bouquet, with bulging pockets seemingly filled with gifts.
Christopher took a deep breath, tightly knitting his brows, glanced at Sophia, thinking, this girl has quite a market! Only a few days gone, she has a boyfriend and pursuers as well.
Watching the two men before him, Christopherâs smile grew colder and more sinister, as if someone had moved something belonging to him.
"I donât like you; stop looking for me," Sophia explained nervously, tightly clutching Theoâs arm.
Lately, oddly enough, she had an abundance of romantic prospects, having been on several blind dates, with several boys having a good impression of her, though she felt nothing, irritated by their constant phone calls and texts, employing Christopherâs tactic of blocking them.
"Itâs okay if it wasnât love at first sight; feelings can develop slowly. Youâll definitely notice my goodness." The boy held the flowers in front of Sophia, hoping sheâd give him a chance.
Sophia hearing these words, her frown deepened; they sounded all too familiar.
As she recalled having said these words once herself, she gritted her teeth, angrily murmuring, "Itâs karma."
Standing behind her, Christopherâs face instantly soured even further.
He overheard. Sophia was cursing herself for karma; those words, she had once said to him.
